Comments: there seem to have been several Reigles who were among the original settlers of Seneca County: George, Jacob, Daniel, and Henry. The 1810 census shows Jacob, George and Daniel Rail (Rail is the English translation of Reigle). George is most likely the father of Jacob and Henry (not enough information to know about Daniel). Henry died in 1828 and is buried with a wife and daughter. From a letter from Carl Riegle, former publisher of the Riegel newsletter: "Your Jacob was born in Albany Twp., Berks Co., PA, the son of George Riegel. George was the oldest son of George William Reigel who immigrated to Philadelphia on September 18, 1732 aboard the ship 'Adventure' along with his brother Matthias. George William and Matthias' father and the rest of the family came on September 23, 1733 and settled near the village of Host in what is now Berks Co., PA." Carl is descended from George William also. With James Reigle, he was the author of the book Riegell to Riggle, a genealogy, 1390-1995. (Link is to WorldCat for libraries that hold it.)
